Nice discussion of Yojimbo. I’m glad that somebody finally printed that StickyBrain is slow.
I’m a big fan of DEVONthink. While it is much more full featured and complex than either of the programs you mentioned it can do pretty much the same job, and a whole lot more.
Then there is the whole stable full of outliners on the Mac, many of which double nicely as the kind of information storage box that Yojimbo works to be.
All in all, Yojimbo is nice but not compelling and it has lots of quality competition.

I am a big fan of DevonThink too, but I consider that application to be a step up from Yojimbo and StickyBrain. DevonThink is more than an “information dump”. It allows you to classify information, which Yojimbo nor StickyBrain allow you to do.
I reviewed DevonThink Pro earlier on IT-Enquirer:

A really great article! The article confirmed for me that I made the right decision to get a license for Yojimbo instead of going with StickyBrain. I too hope that Bare Bones adds hierarchical folders to Yojimbo in future versions.
By the way, out of curiosity, I would like to know what you think of SOHO Notes.

Yojimbo is quickly becoming one of my favorite Mac applications ever. It’s slowly accumulating the contents of my brain. Hopefully it doesn’t develop consciousness soon.
After Mark/Space’s MissingSync program started supporting Yojimbo that syncs to Blackberry’s Notes application, it because invaluable to me. Now, every text entry in my Yojimbo database is on my Blackberry.
