Fill in The Form.
Photoshop Artistry is aimed at digital photographers who want to take their photography to the next level. The book takes a very structured approach to explaining how Photoshop can help to make for better photos, and also create photographic art. Photoshop Artistry is therefore an excellent tutorial book, besides being a valuable reference work.
The authors are all three skilled digital photographers and Photoshop experts, and that shows in the book as they sometimes take slightly different approaches to what other Photoshop expert teach. That’s quite refreshing, especially when you have a library full of these books.
The book covers everything that Photoshop allows you to do with imagery, including tricks and ‘corrections’ that alter the original image. It is obvious that the authors can’t go as in-depth with some of these capabilities as in specialised books, but the 550 pages are nicely balanced and you never have the feeling that some topics have only touched the surface.
Photoshop Artistry also carefully covers difficult issues more in-depth — that’s part of the authors’ successful balancing act. For example, colour management, colour models and pickers, are all covered extensively. As these are among the most difficult to understand topics, it’s not hard to see why the book goes deeper than others into this area. There is also an extensive chapter on Camera RAW.
The book covers scanner input from Imacon and Epson and covers printers, but only the Epson range of products.
