EFI Designer Edition for HP 4.0 is compatible across platforms, providing greater flexibility for both Mac OS X and Windows end users. Additional support for the HP remote proofing format, RPF 2.0 and HP CMYK Plus colour technology are also included. The new EFI Designer Edition support produces greater consistency and superior colour quality for traditional offset presses without the need for manual intervention in the original source files.

EFI, a leader in digital imaging and print management solutions for commercial and enterprise printing, announced the availability of EFI Designer Edition™ 4.0 for HP, an upgraded version of EFI’s powerful proofing software and option for the new HP Designjet 30 and HP Designjet 130 series multi-format desktop inkjet printers.

Thorsten Breiding, VP & General Manager, EFI Proofing Technology adds: “We are delighted to collaborate with a leader in the printing industry to deliver innovative solutions to creative, graphic arts professionals. The EFI Designer Edition support combined with the Designjet printers are two of many products we hope to bring to the industry with HP that delivers cost-effective tools to demanding end-users.”

The new HP Designjet printers, combined with the enhanced proofing software, enable graphic designers, prepress customers and professional photographers to produce superior-quality, colour accurate contract proofs quickly and easily. In addition, the HP Designjet 30 and HP Designjet 130 series printers feature automatic closed-loop colour calibration technology, with a built-in colour sensor that works with HP printheads and inks to provide consistency from print to print and printer to printer.

“By combining EFI’s technical expertise in the digital proofing market with HP’s professional range of desktop inkjet printers, we are offering our customers the ability to generate high-quality accurate proofs with assured colour consistency,” says Ana Izquierdo, marketing manager, Imaging and Printing Group at HP. “EFI has successfully integrated new color technologies into their products in order to provide our customers with accurate and consistent colors, a radically simple printing experience and outstanding output.”

EFI Designer Edition for HP 4.0 comprises an intuitive, easy-to-use interface and an Adobe PostScript 3 engine (Adobe CPSI). It offers PDF/X support, a nesting function, and selectable RIP resolutions. EFI Designer Edition for HP combined with the HP Designjet 30 and HP Designjet 130 series printers, recently has been awarded SWOP® certification in recognition of the combined solutions’ ability to match SWOP certified press proofs that can be used in the production of publications.

The new Adobe CPSI Interpreter supports in-RIP separation, overprinting, and handling of 2-byte fonts via a font-download facility. It easily integrates special colors defined in Lab or CMYK and is compatible with market standards such as Pantone, HKS and Toyo. EFI Designer Edition for HP 4.0 is soon to be available as an option for the HP Designjet 30 and HP Designjet 130 series printers from June 1, 2004.
