Orlando Luna and Ben Long worked together to write “Aperture”, an Apple Pro Training Series that covers Apple’s Aperture in depth. A DVD-rom with lesson material is included with the book.
Aperture starts with the basics like the interface, file management and the Aperture library. Also included are simple items like opening the application — these do not belong in such a book, in my opinion. After all, if you don’t know how to open an application, you should first read a book on computing in general.
But luckily for us, the authors rapidly move on to explaining how to manipulate photos, adjust images, and outputting the results. Two thirds of the book are spent to the output.
The book lacks good structure. For example, evaluating images is placed between web output and finishing / printing.
One advanced topic is the metadata coverage. For the rest, this book suffers from the same unclear message as the introduction to Aperture written by Estelle McGechie.
