Adobe Press’ Photoshop CS Creative Studio contains tips for artists. Luanne Cohen covers the techniques that most digital artists will want to learn.
It contains background, screencasts, etc. - Article continues...
Luanne Seymour Cohen is a graphic designer. She was a creative director at Adobe Systems. We’ve covered a book she’s written earlier: Design Essentials. The Photoshop CS Creative Studio book is built up around a large number of projects. Most of these projects are what you can also learn from other books. Aqua type is an example.
However, Cohen’s book goes a step further than those ‘common’ projects. For example, she also covers the digital ‘upscaling’ of a photograph by adding an element that wasn’t there on the original. Adding digital material to photographs is not new, but Cohen’s project involves adding in perspective, which is harder than just adding a flat element to a flat photo or a part on a photo that looks flat.
Another approach that is seldom used when teaching how to achieve effects in Photoshop, is the clipart chapter. Here the reader learns how to ‘draw’ clipart with Photoshop CS.
Cohen’s book is a useful and valuable addition to your Photoshop CS library. Some of her examples are exceptionally beautiful and made me remind to Caponigro’s Potoshop book.
