The new version of the editorial system based on Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy is expected to ship around the end of the year. As Adobe’s pilot partner for InDesign Server, SoftCare will use it to transfer standard processes from individual workstations to accelerate the overall workflow. The new K4 Web-Editor enables users to write to fit directly in a standard Web browser with a WYSIWYG preview, allowing a more flexible integration of staff members into the workflow.

Adobe’s new InDesign Server introduces high-performance automation software. With the integration of InDesign Server into K4, SoftCare will further streamline standardized processes such as creating page previews for production control to increase production speed.

With the new K4 Web-Editor, it will be possible for the first time to edit multi-component articles and write to fit in a Web browser. For years, InDesign and InCopy have had full access from remote locations. Now, publishers can also offer low-cost access to selected users without having to install and maintain software on off-site client machines. Thus, K4 Web-Editor is especially suited to grant access to freelancers or other external staff that need only occasional access, or to proof-readers or editors-in-chief that want to monitor article progress every now and again while they are on the road.

“At SoftCare, we continually improve comfort and efficiency in K4 for our customers,” says Andreas Schrader, Managing Director at SoftCare. “With K4 version 5.6, publishing houses, creative agencies and enterprises can work faster and more efficiently without having to compromise on production security or flexibility. The new features will further improve the powerful integration capabilities of K4.”

Another exciting new feature in K4 version 5.6 will be a new standardized interface for easy import of images from an asset management system. With this integration, IPTC information can be transferred as meta data into K4. Standard connections to FotoStation from FotoWare and Visono MAM are already available.
