David Dvorin takes on where Martin Sitter leaves off in his furthermore excellent tutorial on Logic Pro and Logic Express 7. Dvorin concentrates on the Pro version of Logic and goes way deep into its rich and complex feature set. Whereas Sitter focuses more on Logic’s many features and how to get at them, Dvorin focuses more on the workflow a professional audio engineer would follow with Logic.

Fill in The Form.
Dvorin, just like Sitter, starts simple. Only “simple” here means advanced. When Dvorin discusses the Logic Pro setup, he therefore tackles the problem from a workflow improvement point of view. The same goes for the chapter on i/o setup.
Then Dvorin covers working with dependent files (EXS instruments and samples). He also covers Apple loops and software instruments.
The most important chapters, at least in my opinion, are those on the Time and Pitch machine, the advanced mixing, and the scoring to video chapters. Those are features that really set Logic Pro apart from everything else in the market.
Last but not least, Dvorin also covers working with music notation.
The book contains a DVD-rom with sample music and tutorial files. As the title says, the book should teach you how to work with Logic Pro’s advanced features. I don’t know if the coverage of software instruments would match the advanced designator --mainly because I’ve had quite some fun experimenting with these-- but I do know that all the other topics covered in Dvorin’s book certainly deserve to be treated the way he does.
